Christopher and Celia Beaumont-Hutchings began their gin journey in the heart of West Sussex – the South Downs – which became a breathtaking backdrop and inspiration to their successful spirits business. The decision started from their shared love of the spirit, many years of experience as consumers and a desire to bring something completely new to the world of gin. Celia was born and raised in Holland; therefore, had a deep knowledge of the actual history behind gin. It was this that inspired them to combine the original Dutch production methods together with traditional English flavours to create something that had never been done before.

Chilgrove Gin is handcrafted using traditional methods and distilled with natural mineral water filtered through the very chalk Downs which surround Chilgrove; this fine London Dry Gin marries only the finest botanicals together with a neutral spirit distilled from grapes. It is this unusual relationship which gives Chilgrove Gin a sophisticated character and perfect balance for all the seasons. Eleven outstanding botanicals have been painstakingly chosen by the team to create this unique recipe with surprises of wild water mint, grains of paradise and citrus peel, all complementing the extraordinary juniper berry and coriander seed in each batch. Each small batch is crafted in traditional pot stills under the watchful eye of the Master Distiller.

Chilgrove Signature Edition Gin is the very first (and only) English gin to be made solely from grape alcohol. Whilst it is widely known that English gin as we know it today has its roots in 17th Century Holland and is derived from the Juniper-based drink Jenever, it’s a lesser known fact that Jenever was originally made using alcohol distilled from wine. The change to a cereal-base occurred as a result of a wine-shortage in Holland driven by the significant effects the ‘Little Ice Age’ had on European viticulture coupled with changes in the political landscape. Many new gins rely on an increased number of ingredients to present complexity and character, but the Chilgrove approach is entirely different. After years of researching and tasting the gins we all respect and enjoy, along with the very history of the spirit itself, they decided to eschew the current trend of using prominent or unusual botanicals. Instead, Christopher and Celia went back to first principles, looked at the very heart of gin and sourced a superior grape neutral spirit as our starting point. The result is a more refined, elegant style of gin with sophisticated, approachable and modern flavours – the perfect drink irrespective of occasion or season.

Chilgrove Vodka is the very first of its kind. It is seriously smooth and is distilled using crystal clear natural mineral water, filtered through the chalky South Downs which surround Chilgrove, together with a neutral spirit distilled from grapes. It is this unique relationship which gives this vodka a silky-smooth and elegant character.

Chilgrove Vodka appears crystal clear with a clean, neutral and soft nose alongside a hint of fruit alongside faint crusty white bread, fennel and white pepper. On the palate, it is clean, smooth and assertive, soft with very slight earthy notes of black cherry and chocolate. A long smooth lingering finish with pepper spice and very faint aniseed.
