Let’s get fizzy!

Putting the fizz into the party at Christmas can come in various forms. Sheridan Coopers Wine range is large and varied to meet tastes and price points. The most popular form of fizz in the UK is, of course, Prosecco and I can highly recommend two wines from the Italian region, delivering quality and style in abundance. The first is the firm favourite Bella Giuliana with its light scent of fresh pears and white flowers, delicate mousse and hint of sweet ripeness. This is an ideal wine for larger occasions where fun and fizz flow in equal volumes.

My other choice from Prosecco region is the new addition to our list, the fabulous Della Vite Prosecco SuperioreThis is simply one of the best DOC Prosecco you will find and the creation of the three Delevigne Sisters. The sisters had an ambition to source the best grapes from the best vineyards in Prosecco and to make the best wine to reflect the quality and style of the area. The result is a wine with the creamiest mousse caressing a delicious array of pear, quince, and peach fruit with a just dry but really refreshing palate. When you want to taste the best, to celebrate Christmas, then this our starry Prosecco choice.

I do have a guilty secret. I love Cava. For various reasons, Cava fell out of fashion in the early 2000s, it was supplanted by Prosecco and fell off the radar of most wine drinkers in the UK. However, the wines of Cava have undergone a mini-revolution and are now focusing on delivering better quality dry, traditional method wines with amazing value with a growing number of organic producers. Sheridan Cooper Wine has managed to source one of these new wave producers and are pleased to be able to offer the Vallformosa Classic Brut to you and propose it as a Christmas special. The fruit is typically apple focused with touch of lemon and a hint of fresh bread. The wine is dry and crisp, the finish long and fine. The structure and flavour really partner lighter foods and snacks so making ideal for the Christmas scene. All in all, this demonstrates the rise and rise in quality of the Cava offerings and is a great wine to sip and cheer in Christmas.

Looking closer to home what better way to celebrate the Christmas festivities than by celebrating with local sparkling wine such as the premium quality Roebuck Classic Cuvée. A traditional method sparkling wine made with the Champagne varietals of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. The grapes are sourced from vineyards in Sussex and the owners were one of the founders of the Sustainable Wines of Great Britain organization. The wine undergoes a long maturation on the lees and this results in a palate which is harmonious and integrated, complex and rich with a very fine mousse. The Classic Cuvée has win numerous awards including the coveted Decanter Platinum Award for top English wine. So, for fine wine lovers, those who appreciate the best that England can make this is a must for Christmas and the New Year.

Of course, there are those for whom sparkling wine means Champagne. The historic home of fine Sparkling wine. There is no doubt that the region produces many of the finest sparkling wines of the world, with brands known throughout the world. My favourite Champagne producers include the RuinartPol Roger and Bollinger but I also have a soft spot for the wines of Barfontarc from the often overlooked Aube region. For Christmas I would select their vintage offering. It has greater depth that the non- vintage with plenty of brioche richness, notes of hazelnuts, lemon and biscuit. A pleasure to sip and drink it also partners Christmas fayre such as seafood, smoked salmon and cheeses; a treat at a great price.
