The perfect blend of rum, science, innovation and passion.

At the core of Two Drifters is the constant desire to improve and strive for perfection.

Two Drifters was founded by Russ and Gemma Wakeham from Devon in 2019. From Gemma and Russ’s first date (rum tasting) through to their honeymoon (St. Lucia) rum has been at the heart of every major event (and most Friday nights). The name Two Drifters comes from Gemma walking up the aisle on their wedding day to Moon River and both knowing that it meant, ‘Two Drifters off to see the world.’ Chemistry took Russ and Gemma far and wide, but they both knew that Devon was home and where they wanted to be.

Two Drifters mission is to capture 1% of the UK rum market by 2025 and to have 1% of the Global rum market by 2030. They aim to achieve this without harming the earth by producing all of their rum with a carbon negative footprint as they constantly search and implement new or improved sustainable technologies. Russ’s academic career focused on chemistry research into carbon capture, storage and utilisation, trying to make CO2 have value. Raising this awareness is the passion and mission for Russ and now Two Drifters. The simple truth is that it is much easier to have this discussion and consider what can be done over a delicious glass of Two Drifters rum.

As of right now we are influencing how the drinks business (and indeed all businesses)
think about the production of their products with a view towards their carbon footprint.

There is skill and craft in every process, the Two Drifters rum is unique and delicious because of the care and attention dedicated to each stage.

  • 100% molasses, yeast, water & nutrients fermented for 7 days with % of dunder from last fermentation
  • Transferred to kettle for stripping run (1st distillation).
  • Waste molasses sent to a local farm
  • Transferred to pot stills for spirit run (2nd distillation)
  • Transferred to column still for 3rd distillation (Pure White Rum only)
  • Diluted to required ABV with our signature purified Devon water
  • Pot & Column still rum blended, filtered & bottled (Pure White Rum only)
  • Pot still rum spiced, filtered & bottled (Lightly Spiced Rum & Overproof Spiced Pineapple Rum only)
  • Pot still signature rum coloured with burnt sugar (Signature Rum only)

Two Drifters is fully aware that issues facing the climate can only be reduced if businesses, no matter what size, start to measure and be openly accountable and transparent about their actions. Therefore, they use carbon removal, with Climeworks, for all those emissions they just cannot avoid! They are experts on carbon capture and also partnered with Carbfix, who turn the captured CO2 into stone and store it underground.

Two Drifters pride themselves on there values as they partner with a wide variety of businesses to ensure their processes and products are the best quality and cause the least amount of environmental impact. Their values include not harming the planet, avoiding CO2 emissions as primary and remove anything remaining and still enjoying the things they love (but in a socially responsible way).

It’s not just the making of the rum that Two Drifters take into account. Every part of the packaging is thought about as well, including natural cork, FSC wooden top, 100% compostable tamper seal, glass bottle that is light and British made and a label made of 95% sugarcane fibre (waste material) and 5% hemp & linen.
